Mateo is so great. I took a private lesson first, then had such a great experience I decided to take his 5 week intro class. Knowing nothing about photography, I was intimidated by my new camera and was overwhelmed trying to learn on my own. Mateo is such a kind and easygoing person he immediately put me at ease and created a relaxing and positive learning environment. I highly recommend his classes.
Mateo is wonderful! I recently bought a nice camera but I didn't know how to adjust all the manual features to take good photos. So I took an 1:1 session with Mateo. I could feel that Mateo is a genuinely nice and sincere person. He is also very knowledgeable and a patient & great teacher. During the session, he used online tools, online examples, and hands-on practice to help me learn the skills. He also help me take good notes for future reference. I really enjoyed my session with him. I have been really busy this summer and I cannot wait to go back for more lessons. I highly recommend Mateo! Note: Don't let the building scare/fool you away. Mateo is legit and his own office space has great lighting for what is needed to practice taking photos and learning.
My one-on-one lesson with Mateo was fantastic. I consider myself very much a beginner and he was patient, helpful, kind, and such a delight to learn from and work with. He had materials ready ahead of time to assist in the lesson, and he really took the time to cover the fundamentals in a way that was easy to understand and involved hands-on practice. I especially enjoyed when we then went outside to practice shooting. Mateo was encouraging and supportive and followed up after the lesson with a multitude of resources I can refer back to. I can't recommend a lesson from Mateo highly enough!
An absolute beginner, I had bought a Canon EOS Rebel T7i a while back, and was anxious to get started using it -- and using it with its manual settings! Naturally, I went down the rabbit hole of YouTube, and learned general concepts of photography. I wanted to get in-person training, however I was very quickly priced out of this type of learning in the Portland area. It wasn't until I found Mateo's 1:1 class, offered at a very affordable rate, that I was able to take the next step. Don't let Mateo's price fool you though! Mateo is incredibly knowledgeable and experienced in all things photography. From taking the picture, to editing and publishing. I learned more in my 2 hour session with Mateo than I had learned from MANY hours spent on YouTube, and other course websites! Mateo is an instructor at PSU and PNCA, and shared with me his course slide decks, worksheets, and exercises, so that I may be able to continue to learn on my own. He completely catered his teaching to my skill level and my camera. This is exactly what I wanted. He taught me basics, camera anatomy, photography terminology, best practices, and cool effects, while promoting creativity. We even went outside and took some action shots. I applied what he taught me in the attached photos. If you're on the fence about taking a course in anything photography, I'd highly recommend you make the jump and go with Mateo!
