I dislike having to rely on phone support from SSA. I had a simple question and got lost in all the RED TAPE. It's ridiculous. I finally got a phone number to call and the recording was kind enough to inform me of a wait time exceeding 2 hours. There needs to be more agents available to help the public.
The wait at social security department is unreasonable. I tried to make an appointment online and the system wouldn't let me, so I had to go in to the office just to make an appointment. I was told to take a ticket and wait to be called. I waited for over 2 hours before being called to a window. Setting the appointment took less than 5 minutes. They need a " triage person" there. Or they should make thier online portal more usable so people don't need to go into an office.
Prior to the holidays this office outright refused to allow appointments to be made, then changed to an appointment only system without warning. Wait time to make an appointment over the phone exceeds 2 hours, while in person wait to simply make an appointment exceeds 3 hours. Security officer and employees are curt and rude. In one case an employee used the intercom to scold a person for asking questions of the security officer.
